WASHINGTON – Two Georgetown University student-athletes were recognized with the 2019 PNC Student-Athlete Achiever Awards during Wednesday's men's basketball game against No. 17/16 Villanova at Capital One Arena. Senior
Dionna White (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill) from the women's basketball team was the female recipient, while sophomore
Ahmad Wilson (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Gateway) of the football team was the male honoree.
The awards were presented by Georgetown Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
Lee Reed and PNC Bank Regional President Richard Bynum.
"Dionna and Ahmad are well-rounded student-athletes who demonstrate leadership in the classroom and in competition," said Bynum. "We congratulate both of them for their commitment to their sport and to their scholastic achievement."
White is currently averaging 14.8 ppg and 7.3 rpg in her senior season to rank second on the squad in both categories. She has also been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week (12/31) and twice to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
In the preseason, White was one of 20 student-athletes nationally named to the 2019 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The annual award in its second year recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. She was also a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection.
In her career White has been named All-BIG EAST all three years earning a spot on the first team as a junior and being named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. Recently, the guard became the program's all-time leader in steals and sits at third on the all-time scoring list. White is third among NCAA active career leaders in steals (328) and fourth in steals average (2.83). She is also a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic honoree.
Wilson was selected to the All-Patriot League Second Team, earning his second-consecutive postseason award after being named to the first team as a freshman last year. In 2018, the sophomore defensive back was a force on both defense and special teams, playing in all 11 games with 10 starts at safety. He finished with 33 tackles, 1.0 TFL and was third on the team with five pass breakups. He had two of Georgetown's 20 interceptions on the season which led the Patriot League and ranked fourth in the country.
In the classroom, Wilson earned Patriot League Academic Honor Roll honors and was named to the 15-member Academic All-Patriot League Team. He was also selected to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Football Team in November.
