WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's basketball team (17-11, 7-8 BIG EAST) closes its regular season home stretch against Seton Hall (16-11, 7-8 BIG EAST) at Capital One Arena on Saturday night. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. and a link to live stats is available at GUHoyas.com.
The game can be seen live on CBS Sports Network with John Sadak calling the play-by-play and Bob Wenzel providing analysis. The game can be heard locally on The Team 980 and on SiriusXM channel 81 with Rich Chvotkin calling the action.
The Hoyas are carrying momentum from Wednesday night's home victory against DePaul, winning 82-73.
Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y. / Wings Academy) led all scores with 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting including a 3-for-4 clip from downtown for 26 points.
Mac McClung (Gate City, Va. / Gate City) and
James Akinjo (Oakland, Calif. / Salesian College Preparatory) tallied 15 and 13 points, respectively, to round out those in double figures with a combined 6-for-6 perfect effort from the charity stripe.
Josh LeBlanc (Baton Rouge, La. / Madison Prep Academy) led the squad with seven rebounds while Akinjo's six helpers paced the offense. The Hoyas shot 49.2 percent (32 of 65) from the field and outrebounded the Blue Demons 34-33 while GU's bench outperformed DePaul 13-6.
Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in a quartet of categories including scoring offense (81.0 ppg), assists per game (17.50) rebounding offense (39.4 rebounds per game) and defensive rebounds per game (28.61). Akinjo leads the league in assists per game (5.36) while LeBlanc sits second in field goal percentage (.674).
Saturday night's matchup to defend the District will be a rematch of the 90-75 loss to Seton Hall in the sixth week of BIG EAST play. Govan led a duo in double figures in the matchup as he scored 20 points while
Greg Malinowski (Chantilly, Va. / Episcopal / William & Mary) added 16 off the bench on 7-of-10 shooting. Govan's six rebounds were a squad best. LeBlanc's three rejections led the Hoyas and
Jagan Mosely (Marlboro, N.J. / St. Anthony) dished five assists to pace the offense. Georgetown shot 45.3 percent (29 of 64) from the floor.
The Pirates have dropped two of their last three contests since hosting the Hoyas and are coming off of a 78-70 loss to St. John's on Saturday. Myles Powell continues to lead Seton Hall on offense, averaging 21.9 points per game while Myles Cale and Quincy McKnight average 10.4 and 10.1 ppg, respectively. Against GU, Powell paced the offense with 30 points and five rebounds followed by Michael Nzei with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Saturday's contest will be the final home game for seniors Govan, Malinowski,
Kaleb Johnson (South Hill, Va. / The Carlisle School) and
Trey Mourning (Miami, Fla. / Ransom Evergades).
Following Saturday's game, the Hoyas hit the road to close out their regular season schedule with a pair of conference games against DePaul and Marquette. Tipoff against DePaul is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 6 in Chicago.
