WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's golf team shot an even-par opening round 288 to sit third at the USF Invitational, host by South Florida on Monday. The Hoyas completed 14 holes in the second round before play was called because of darkness.
Eduardo Blochtein (Delray Beach, Fla. / Spanish River) and
Hardin Councill (High Point, N.C. / Westchester Country Day) shot matching rounds of 70 to tie for sixth after the opening round.
Will O'Neill (Morristown, N.J. / Morristown) carded a 73 to tie for 19th and
Patrick DiPasquale (Rochester, N.Y. / McQuaid Jesuit) shot a 75 to tie for 36th.
Kevin Jackson (Atlanta, Ga. / Marist School) rounded out the GU contingent with an 80 to sit tied for 70th.
The host Bulls shot 279 (-9) and Mercer carded a 287 (-1) as the only teams under par after 18 holes. Georgetown (288) was third, followed by Illinois State (290) and Southern Illinois (291). Louisiana Tech, Elon and Central Arkansas all shot 292 to tie for fourth followed by Abilene Christian (296). Chattanooga (303), Delaware (304), Florida Atlantic (305), Oakland (306), Florida A&M (311) and Cleveland State (312) rounded out the field.
Tuesday's action will start with teams finishing the final four holes of the second round before wrapping up with a final 18. A link to live scoring can be found at www.GUHoyas.com.
Following the USF Invitational, the Hoyas return to Florida to participate in the FAU Spring Invitational in Boca Raton on March 29-30.
