Eight-Run Inning Propels Baseball Past Princeton 10-6

BETHESDA, Md. – The Georgetown University baseball team used an eight-run seventh inning, propelled by five RBIs from Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va. / Oakton), to defeat Princeton 10-6 on Sunday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field. With the win, the Hoyas earned a series split and improve to 6-14 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 3-8.

Davis led the offense with three hits, including his first home run of the season, and five RBIs while also scoring two runs. Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla. / San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) finished with three hits while Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) and Yareb Martinez (Aldie, Va. / John Champe) had two knocks apiece. Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) homered, was on base three times and scored two runs.

Carter Bosch (McLean, Va. / Potomac) started on the mound and, on a strict pitch limit, went 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He set a new career high with four strikeouts. Angelo Tonas (Hillsborough, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep) threw 2.2 innings of relief, allowing one run on five hits while striking out two. Owen Lamon (Herndon, Va. / Oakton) picked up his first win of the season, allowing one run in 2.0 innings of work.

After two scoreless innings, Ruedisili put the Hoyas on the board first with a solo home run, his team-leading fourth of the season, in the bottom of the third.

Princeton put together three soft singles around a bunt to score two runs in the top of the fourth and take a 2-1 lead.

Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with nobody out for Georgetown in the bottom of the fourth. An RBI fielder's choice from Will Salomon (Greenwich, Conn. / Brunswick) scored a run as the Hoyas pulled even, 2-2.

The Tigers regained the lead with an RBI ground out in the top of the fifth and added a run in the seventh to go up 4-2.

Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Conn.) led off the bottom of the seventh with a double. After a walk, Ryan P. Davis lifted a high fly ball to left that cleared the fence for his first home run of the season, a three-run shot that gave the Hoyas a 5-4 lead. One out later, AJ Lotsis (Phoenixville, Pa. / Episcopal Academy) reached on an error to restart the rally. Following a wild pitch, Lotsis scored on a double by Freddy Achecar III (Atlanta, Ga. / Lovett School). A single and hit by pitch loaded the bases before Ryan M. Davis singled in Achecar and McCabe drew a walk to force home Martinez. Ryan P. Davis capped the inning with his second hit of the frame, a two-run single to give GU a 10-4 lead.

Princeton scored two runs in the top of the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate, but Jacob Grzebinski (Bellaire, Texas / Emery Weiner) got a line out to seal the victory, 10-6.

The Hoyas will make the short trip to Fairfax, Virginia on Tuesday for a midweek matchup against George Mason. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com. Georgetown will return to Shirley Povich Field for a three-game series next weekend against Hartford.
