WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University women's tennis team was defeated at Richmond on Sunday afternoon in a 4-1 battle with the Spiders. With the loss, the Hoyas slip to 2-12 while Richmond improves to 7-6.
In doubles, Richmond secured the early team point with three straight wins over the Hoyas.
In singles, the Spiders took the 3-0 lead before
Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) secured the lone Georgetown point of the day at No. 4. Nakagawa defeated Helene Heiberg in straight sets 7-5, 6-1. RU clinched with victory at No. 3 as Lea Owens defeated
Elena De Santis (Avellino, Italy / Convitto Nazionale P. Colletta) 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Sofie Moenster (Oslo, Norway / Ordrup Gymnasium) and
Cecilia Lynham's (Chevy Chase, Md. / Holton Arms) matches at No. 1 and No. 6, respectively, went unfinished.
The Hoyas are back in action on Friday, April 5 as they take on District neighbors, George Washington. The matchup against the Colonials is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Maryland. A live stream will be available on GUHoyas.com.
