PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Western Michigan used a 27-hit attack to defeat the Georgetown University baseball team 22-1 on Wednesday afternoon at North Charlotte Regional Park as part of the Snowbird Baseball Classic. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 2-10 on the season, while the Broncos improve to 4-8.
Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) and
Alex Gamache (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest Academy) each had two hits to lead the offense.
Carter Bosch (McLean, Va. / Potomac) made his first career start and struck out three in 2.2 innings of work.
Western Michigan broke the game open early, scoring two runs in the first inning and four more in the second. Six runs in the third inning gave the Broncos a 12-0 advantage. They tacked on runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings as well.
Georgetown put a run on the board in the top of the eighth.
James Gabor (Wyndmoor, Pa. / William Penn Charter School) reached on an infield single and came all the way around to score on a double by
Michael Willis (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman).
The Hoyas will have a day off on Thursday before returning to action on Friday morning when they take on Ball State at the Snowbird Baseball Classic. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
