Hoyas Remain Undefeated on Road with 19-6 Win at Fairfield

WASHINGTON – Coming off of its most dominating win since 2001 on Wednesday, the No. 18/16 Georgetown University men's lacrosse team one-upped itself with a 19-6 victory on the road at Fairfield on Saturday afternoon. The Hoyas (6-1) posted their most goals in a game since a 21-8 win over Butler in 2001.

Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md. / St. Mary's) had a stellar afternoon for the Blue & Gray, scoring a career-high nine points (4G, 5A). He tied the most points in a game for the Hoyas since 2015 and matched a venue record at Rafferty Stadium. Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) added seven points (5G, 2A) including his fourth game-winning goal of the season.

Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison / Mercer) added a goal and two assists for three points while both Robert Clark (Cooksville, Md. / McDonogh) and Dylan Watson (Guelph, Ontario / The Hill Academy) added two goals. Massimo Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y. / IMG Academy) and Declan McDermott (Pleasantville, N.Y. / Pleasantville) both tallied a goal and an assist.

Niko Gekas (Roswell, Ga. / Roswell), Jack Elders (Tiburon, Calif. / Redwood) and James Reilly (Berwyn, Pa. / Conestoga) all had lone goals while Austin McDonald (Olney, Md. / Georgetown Prep) and Jack Kelly (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Brother Rice) both recorded assists.

In goal, Owen McElroy (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood [Avon Old Farms]) collected six in three quarters for his fifth victory of the season. Chris Brandau (Timonium, Md. / Boys' Latin) closed out the game, pulling in a pair of saves and blanking the Stags in the fourth quarter.

Defensively, Georgetown was credited with 13 caused turnovers on the day. Carraway, Patrick Aslanian (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield), Chris Walker (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) and Joe LiCalzi (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / South Side) each notched two. Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial) hauled in seven ground balls, Reilly added five and LiCalzi collected four.

Reilly continued his strong play at the 'X', winning 10-of-20 (.500) faceoffs.

Georgetown scored on a Carraway goal on the opening possession of the game and never looked back. The Hoyas outscored Fairfield 5-0 in the opening frame and led 6-0 before their hosts got on the board. A goal from Clark with 12 seconds remaining in the half gave GU a 10-2 lead at the break.

Fairfield (2-3) scored the first two goals in the second half to make it 10-4 but the Blue & Gray responded with six of the next eight scores in the frame to take a 16-6 lead. The Hoyas held the Stags scoreless in the final 15 minutes while adding another three goals of their own.

Dylan Beckwith led Fairfield with three assists. No FU player scored more than one goal in the game.

Georgetown returns home to host Drexel on Saturday, March 16 at Cooper Field.
