WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's golf team sits in ninth place after the first day of the Rutherford Invitational, hosted by Penn State on Saturday. The Hoyas shot rounds of 299 and 295 for a 594 total.
Hardin Councill (High Point, N.C. / Westchester Country Day) carded rounds of 71 and 72 to shoot 1-over par and lead the Hoyas in a tie for 12th place.
Will O'Neill (Morristown, N.J. / Morristown) is tied for 31st at 147 (75-72),
Patrick DiPasquale (Rochester, N.Y. / McQuaid Jesuit) is tied for 50th at 151 (75-76),
Eduardo Blochtein (Delray Beach, Fla. / Spanish River) is tied for 59th at 153 (78-75) and
Anthony Perrino (Concord, N.C. / The Canon School) is 78th at 162 (80-82).
Playing as an individual,
Noah Moss (Bethesda, Md. / Walter Johnson) is tied for 50th at 151 (75-76).
The host Nittany Lions (565) lead the field at 3-under par while Eastern Michigan (566) is right behind them at 2-under par. UConn (572) is third, followed by West Virginia (579), Rutgers (580), Seton Hall (583) and both Minnesota (588) and Oakland (588) tied for seventh. Georgetown (594) is ninth with Loyola Maryland (595), Dayton (599), William & Mary (599) and Cornell (608) rounding out the field.
Sunday's final round begins at 12:45 p.m. for the Hoyas, beginning on the 10th hole. Georgetown is paired with William & Mary and Oakland for the final round.
Following the weekend, the Hoyas take part in the BIG EAST Championship in Callawassie Island, South Carolina on April 26-28.
