Parsells, Popowitz Named All-BIG EAST

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf team had a pair of student-athletes named to the All-BIG EAST Team, when the league announced the postseason honors on Wednesday. Seniors Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J. / Kent Place) and Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla. / St. Andrew's) both earned nods to the seven-member All-BIG EAST Team. The selections were made by the league's head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.

For Parsells, this is her fourth career All-BIG EAST selection. She finished third at the BIG EAST Championship last month with a 10-over par 226. Parsells led the Hoyas as a senior with a 75.7 stroke average, recording three top-five finishes. She won her first career tournament at the 2019 Hoya Invitational, recording three birdies over the final nine holes to claim medalist honors with a 2-over par 218.

Popowitz earns her second career All-BIG EAST nod after being named the BIG EAST Player of the year as a sophomore in 2017. As a senior, Popowitz was second on the squad with a 75.9 stroke average and had five top-10 finishes on the season. She had a season-best second-place finish at the River Landing Classic to open the spring season in early March.

The Hoyas finished second at the 2019 BIG EAST Championship Presented by Jeep at the Callawassie Island Golf Club in Callawassie, South Carolina. As a team, Georgetown finished among the top 10 in seven of its 10 tournaments on the season, highlighted by a team victory at the 2019 Hoya Invitational.
