Georgetown Rallies for Wild Win Over Butler In Season Finale

BETHESDA, Md. – The Georgetown University baseball team overcame a seven-run deficit to win the season finale 12-9 over Butler on Saturday afternoon in a BIG EAST conference game at Shirley Povich Field. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 22-34 on the season and 7-11 in BIG EAST play, while the Bulldogs fall to 26-26 overall and 6-12 in conference action.

Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk) led the GU offense with four hits and he was on base five times with a walk. He homered twice, drove in four runs and scored three times. Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs while crossing the plate twice. Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va. / Oakton) had a pair of doubles, scored two runs and drove in one. Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla. / San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) had a pair of hits and scored twice while Freddy Achecar (Atlanta, Ga. / Lovett School) and Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) each had two RBIs.

Carter Bosch (McLean, Va. / Potomac) started on the mound and went 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on a hit and three walks while striking out two. Miller Freeman (Nashville, Tenn. / Montgomery Bell Academy) picked up his first career win, firing 2.2 scoreless innings while tying a career high with four strikeouts. Chase Walter (Winston-Salem, N.C. / Forsyth Country Day School) set a personal best with three strikeouts as pitched the final two innings for his first career save.

Butler took a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning on five walks, a single and a home run. Two more solo homers gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead in the top of the fourth.

McCabe launched a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to put the Hoyas on the board, cutting the deficit to 7-1.

Ruedisili and McCabe led off the bottom of the sixth inning with back-to-back solo home runs. It was the third time this season that the Hoyas hit consecutive homers. Ryan P. Davis continued the rally with a double to right field. He moved to third on a fly out and scored on an RBI single by Achecar to make it a 7-4 game.

In the top of the seventh, a single and two walks loaded the bases with no outs. Ruedisili hit a slow roller to second that was bobbled as Kai Nelson (New York, N.Y. / Fieldston) crossed the plate. McCabe forced home a run with a walk and Weisenberg then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. After another walk re-loaded the bases, Ryan M. Davis lined a two-run double into the right-center field gap to give GU its first lead. Achecar capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly to the warning track in right to give the Hoyas a 10-7 lead.

Butler scored two runs in the top of the eighth, but Walter stranded the tying run on second. In the bottom half of the inning, McCabe singled in Nelson and Ryan P. Davis hit a sacrifice fly to left, driving in Weisenberg, to provide the final score 12-9.

The Hoyas conclude the season with a 22-34 overall record and a 7-11 mark in BIG EAST play.

Notes – Weisenberg's first-inning single was his 150th career hit, becoming the 37th member of GU's 150-hit club … Ruedisili's 13th HR of the season in the sixth inning tied him for 3rd-most in GU's single-season history with Ryan Craft (2005) ... He homered in each of the six BIG EAST series this season … McCabe's two home runs on Saturday gave him five on the season and he is first Hoya to hit two homers in a game since Alex Bernauer (C'18) last May.
