WASHINGTON – A pair of Georgetown University women's golf players – rising senior
Kate Evanko (West Chester, Pa. / Unionville) and rising junior
Elizabeth Nguyen (Pinehurst, N.C. / Pinecrest) – were both named Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars on Monday, as announced by the association.The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team was a minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.
Evanko appeared in six tournaments as a junior, registering a 79.07 stroke average over 14 rounds played. She fired a career-best single round of 73 at the Nittany Lion Invitational, part of her season best tournament score of 11-over par 227. Evanko's best finish of the season came at the Hoya Invitational in April where she finished tied for 32nd.
Nguyen played in five tournaments as a sophomore, ranking fifth on the team with a 78.15 stroke average over 13 rounds. She put together a top-five performance at the Hoya Invitational, placing fourth as an individual with a 5-over par 221. She turned in an even-par 72 in the second round, a season-best round. Nguyen competed at the BIG EAST Championship, finishing in a tie for 13th place after carding a three-round score of 236.
The Hoyas finished second at the 2019 BIG EAST Championship Presented by Jeep at the Callawassie Island Golf Club in Callawassie, South Carolina. As a team, Georgetown placed among the top 10 in seven of its 10 tournaments on the season, highlighted by a team victory at the 2019 Hoya Invitational. Following the tournament, graduating seniors
Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J. / Kent Place) and
Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla. / St. Andrew's) both earned nods to the seven-member All-BIG EAST Team.
