8/29/2019 2:00:00 PM

The Hoyas will start the opening weekend to the 2019 season with two games on the Hilltop at Cooper Field. Georgetown will look to put one in the win column when they face Davidson this Friday at 2 p.m. The Hoyas will then welcome the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Sunday at noon, attempting to start their season off at 2-0 against the Wildcats and Mountaineers for the fourth-straight year. Live stats and live streaming will be available for both games at www.GUHoyas.com.

GU 2019 Outlook

Coming off an 11-7 season in Head Coach Christy Longacre's first season, going 7-2 at home, the Hoyas will look to take the next step in year two under Longacre. Georgetown returns 19 contributors from a year ago and brings in four freshmen to help bolster the roster for the 2019 campaign.

GU's expectations are high going into Longacre's second year, bringing back 10 players with at least 10 starts from a season ago. The Hoyas will have their top three scorers back in junior Cami Osborne followed by seniors Lindsay Getz and Michaela Bruno. Osborne led the team with 20 points (9G, 2A), followed by Getz's 19 (8G, 3A) and Bruno's 12 (5 G, 2 A) to round out the top three.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ciara Weets, who started all 18 games as a freshman, will provide consistency in the backend for the Hoyas. Juniors Jax van der Veen (7A) and Ali Cronin (6A) also return as Georgetown assist leaders from last season.

Scouting Davidson 2019

The Wildcats finished 2018 at 5-13, securing one win in Atlantic 10 play with a 1-7 record. Davidson is led by first-year Head Coach Zoe Almquist and are picked to finish eighth in the Atlantic 10 conference preseason poll. The Wildcats lost their top three scorers from 2018 and return 13 players from last season. Seven newcomers will join the 2019 team. Davidson attempted 7.6 shots on average last season, allowing 15.7 shots on the year. The Wildcats averaged 1.06 goals per game and allowed 2.61 goals per game.

The Hoyas are 4-1 against the Wildcats in their last five meetings. GU defeated the Wildcats 1-0 last season behind an early goal from sophomore Sydney Stephenson and a five-save shutout from Weets. Georgetown will look to make it four-straight against Davidson on Friday.

Scouting Appalachian State 2019

The Mountaineers finished last season 7-14, 1-5 in Mid-American Conference play. Appalachian State is predicted to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference preseason poll. App State returns 21 letterwinners from last season's 7-14 squad that managed to pull off two wins in the Mid-American Conference Tournament. The Mountaineers bring back their top three scorers in Veerle Van Heertum,  Ali Williams and Fredi Stegen. App State averaged 1.86 goals on 10.3 shots per game last season, allowing 3.05 goals on 13.8 shots per game.

The Hoyas look to continue the winning streak in the series. In its last meeting, Georgetown came out strong, scoring less than two minutes into the match on the first shot of the game by van der Veen. The Hoyas went on to shut out the Mountaineers 2-0.

Up Next

After spending the opening weekend at home, the Hoyas will travel for their next four games before coming back to the Hilltop to begin BIG EAST play against Villanova. The squad will head to Farmville, Virginia on September 6 to face Longwood.
