WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Football Head Coach Rob Sgarlata has announced the team captains for the 2019 season. Seniors Ryan Jelinek, Gunther Johnson and Khristian Tate and junior Wes Bowers will lead the Hoyas this fall. The four captains were selected by a vote of the team's players and coaches.

"This morning we elected our four captains for the 2019 campaign with Wes Bowers and Khristian Tate on defense and Ryan Jelinek and Gunther Johnson on offense. Throughout last offseason, this spring and our summer program, these four individuals have done a great job of leading us on and off the field. Hopefully, all their hard work will pay off as we open the season this weekend at Davidson."
 
Senior Offensive Lineman Ryan Jelinek

• Started in eight games in 2018
• Has appeared in 21 games with 13 starts in his career
• Helped Hoyas nearly double their rushing totals from 2017 to 2018

 
Senior Quarterback Gunther Johnson

• Started all 11 games last season, completing 152-of-296 passes for 1,696 yards and nine touchdowns
• Led the Hoyas with four rushing touchdowns
• Earned Patriot League Honor Mention selections twice in 2018

 
Senior Defensive Lineman Khristian Tate

• Preseason Third Team All-American
• Three-time All-Patriot League selection
• Led Patriot League with 10 sacks in 2018
• Ranked third on team with 54 tackles and led with 16.5 TFL
• Has 145 career tackles and 16.5 career sacks

 
Junior Linebacker Wes Bowers

• 2019 No. 35 Joe Eacobacci Memorial Jersey recipient
• 2018 All-Patriot League Second Team selection and earned HERO Sports FCS Sophomore All-American honors
• Led the Hoyas with 91 tackles, ranking fourth in the Patriot League, and had a team-high four interceptions
• Ranked third on the squad with 4.5 sacks and 8.5 TFL
• Had a career-high 18 tackles against Campbell, a mark that ranks third in GU history

 
Georgetown will travel to Davidson on August 31 for the season opener before hosting Marist in the home opener on September 7.
