WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University field hockey team opened the 2019 season on Friday afternoon at Cooper Field with a 5-2 victory against the Davidson College Wildcats. The Blue & Gray was able to capture its fourth consecutive win against the Wildcats, allowing the Hoyas to move to 1-0 on the year.
"Today was a great start for us." Longacre said. "Davidson was a tough team and put a lot of pressure on us, but I was happy with how our team adjusted and made it work. Lots of great moments all over the field offensively and defensively. Always things we can improve on and work on, but we are taking each game and growing from them."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Ellie Maransky tallied the first goal of the game, and her career, as she fired one past the Davidson goalkeeper on the right side
- Senior Lindsay Getz was able to stretch GU's lead in the second quarter with an unassisted goal before heading into halftime
- Maransky tallied her second goal of the game off a penalty corner late in the third quarter
- Senior Michaela Bruno scored her first on a 2v1 fast break, assisted by Maransky
- Getz took things into her own hands to get the Hoyas their fifth goal after a long pass from Halle Gill
- Davidson managed two late goals to provide the final 5-2 score
OF NOTE
- The Hoyas took 22 shots to the Wildcats seven
- Georgetown recorded nine penalty corners on the day, limiting the Wildcats to three
- Sophomore goalkeeper Ciara Weets had four saves on the day, allowing just two goals late in the final quarter
