Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 13 Hoyas Blank Owls, 3-0

WASHINGTON –  The No. 13 Georgetown University men's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-0 victory over the Temple University Owls on Monday afternoon at Shaw Field.  The Hoyas dominated play in the physical game to pick up the second victory of opening weekend.

How it Happened
  • Georgetown scored in the 25th minute as junior Paul Rothrock passed it to sophomore Sean Zawadzki in the middle of the box.  Zawadzki managed to tap it to the right post to put GU on top 1-0
  • The second score of the game came in the 39th minute as Rothrock sent a corner to the near post where senior captain Dylan Nealis was waiting to get a head on it.  He curved in the header to make it 2-0
  • In the 57th minute, freshman Dante Polvara and junior captain Derek Dodson connected on the give-and-go as Polvara fired a laser from outside the box to seal the victory

Sounds of the Game
  • "It's great to have younger guys step up, even Tomas (Romero) was in goal today and did a great job with his first shutout.  It's always great to get the younger guys involved and see some time on the field." – Dylan Nealis
  • "It's been a nice transition and I'm lucky because all three assists have had nice finishes so I haven't been doing that much.  This team is easy and fun to play with, we're enjoying ourselves out there and I think it shows and the confidence level shows as well." – Paul Rothrock
  • "Our guys think they can play anybody, but it's different going on the road.  We have a totally different task ahead of us.  UC Irvine is a difficult team and UCLA is UCLA and trying to go out there and get wins at their grounds will be a huge task for us to accomplish.  With the schedule we play, we're trying to test ourselves and if we don't get it just right the teams we play will hurt us." – Head Coach Brian Wiese

Of Note
  • Zawadzki's goal was the first of his career
  • Rothrock has three assists on the season and has scored in both contests
  • Polvara has tallied two goals in two games on the Hilltop for the freshman
  • Freshman Tomas Romero started in goal and managed five saves and the clean sheet for the Blue & Gray
  • Georgetown outshot Temple 14-9 including seven shots on goal to TU's five
  • The Hoyas took three corners to the Owls' one
  • As the game kicked off Polvara was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his efforts in the win over Syracuse to open the 2019 season
