Volleyball Sweeps Opening Day of 2019 Hoya Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team pushed its winning streak to five matches with a pair of victories on the opening day of the 2019 Hoya Invitational on Friday. The Blue & Gray defeated Morgan State 3-1 (27-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20) to open the day before topping Binghamton 3-1 (25-8, 25-27, 25-23, 25-11) to close out the day.
 
Georgetown 3, Morgan State 1 (27-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20)
•    Iva Vujosevic led the Hoyas with 12 kills and narrowly missed a double-double with nine digs.
•    Three other Hoyas had at least seven kills; Elissa Barbosa (9), Brennan Wilhite (8) and Margo Snipe (7).
•    Emma Plutnicki posted her team-leading fourth double-double of the season with 30 assists and 12 digs.
•    The Hoyas recorded 13 service aces, a match-high for the Blue & Gray this season.
•    Vujosevic and Kendall Flaharty were both credited with four aces, most in a match this year for Georgetown.
•    The Hoyas also posted 12 blocks with Wilhite earning six rejections and Snipe another five.
•    Jessica Cusi had a contest-best 19 digs for GU.

Georgetown 3, Binghamton 1 (25-8, 25-27, 25-23, 25-11)
•    Vujosevic added another 17 kills against Binghamton to extend Georgetown's winning streak to five.
•    Barbosa added nine kills, Peyton Wilhite had eight and both Brennan Wilhite and Jewell Johnson had four.
•    Plutnicki tallied yet another double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs.
•    It was Barbosa's turn to narrowly miss a double-double, hauling in 11 digs to go with her nine kills.
•    Cusi notched another 17 digs, her eighth match with at least 10 digs this season.
•    The Hoyas had another 10 aces against the Bearcats, with Vujosevic and Flaharty once again leading the way with three each.
•    Plutnicki had four blocks while both Peyton and Brennan Wilhite, along with Kace Boland, added three.

Following Saturday's conclusion to the 2019 Hoya Invitational, Georgetown closes out its nonconference schedule as it hosts crosstown foe Howard to the Hilltop on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.
