WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University field hockey team improved to 2-1 on the season after a late goal by junior
Ali Cronin. GU handed Longwood its second 2-1 loss against the Hoyas in as many years. Sophomore
Ciara Weets was stout in the goal, allowing just one goal on 22 shots from the Lancers.
"Today was a great team win," said Head Coach
Christy Longacre. "They worked together all the way up until the last horn. Longwood is a great team that showed speed and skill and we stayed strong defensively."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Longwood was unable to capitalize during the first quarter and was kept off the board despite four penalty corners.
- Weets makes back-to-back stops early on in the second quarter.
- Jordan Sweeney scored on the next offensive possession, which was the Hoyas first shot on the afternoon.
- Weets stopped four-consecutive shots on Longwood's attack with just under five minutes to go in the third quarter.
- Olivia Wawrzyniak scored late in the third for the Lancers to tie things up.
- Ali Cronin scored with five minutes left on the clock to give GU the game winning goal.
OF NOTE
- Weets had 13 saves on the day.
- Georgetown had six shots on goal on 11 attempts.
- The Lancers edged out the Hoyas with nine penalty corners to the GU's six.
