WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell 85-64 to the Xavier University Musketeers Friday evening at McDonough Arena in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. With the loss, the Blue & Gray falls to 4-12 on the season and 1-4 in the BIG EAST, while the Musketeers move to 2-13 overall and 1-3 in the league.
How it Happened
- Xavier jumped out to an early lead with an 11-4 lead midway through the first.
- Graduate student Brianna Jones would score five quick points to cut the advantage to two, but the Blue & Gray would not find a way to move ahead.
- With a minute left in the stanza, a Musketeer turnover resulted in a bucket from senior Anita Kelava to tie the game at 16.
- Xavier would answer with back-to-back 3-pointer to make it 22-16 at the end of the first.
- Georgetown opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer from sophomore Nikola Kovacikova following by a put back and a jumper by classmate Tayanna Jones to put the Blue & Gray on top 23-22, in total GU staged a 9-1 run.
- The Hoyas clung to the small lead until the three-minute mark when XU staged a 13-1 run to close out the half and make it 36-28 at the end of the second stanza.
- Georgetown hit a pair of buckets to begin the second half, but Xavier came roaring back building a 16-point lead in the third quarter as the Hoyas stared down a 57-41 deficit.
- The Blue & Gray struggled to recover in the final quarter eventually falling 85-64.

- Kovacikova led the way for the Hoyas with 14 points, while Brianna Jones added 13 as the two Hoyas notching double digits.
- Freshman Graceann Bennett had a team-high seven rebounds, while senior Anita Kelava managed six.
- Georgetown shot 44 percent in the game hitting 27-of-62 shots, while Xavier was 51 percent from the field hitting 29-of-57 including 13 3-pointers.
- GU outrebounded the Musketeers 36-32 but committed 17 turnovers to Xavier's 13.
