Georgetown Drops Decision at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Georgetown University women's basketball team lost 79-60 to the Seton Hall University Pirates Sunday afternoon at Walsh Gymnasium in a BIG EAST Conference matchup.  With the loss, the Blue & Gray falls to 4-11 on the season and 1-3 in the BIG EAST, while the Pirates improve to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the league.

How it Happened
  • The Hall began the scoring early and never looked back as GU struggled from the field early on.
  • Looking at a 10-point deficit, graduate student Taylor Barnes hit a jumper to move it to eight.  SHU countered, but Barnes nailed a trey to make it 15-8.
  • The Pirates would close out the quarter with an 8-0 run to make it 23-8 at the end of the first period.
  • The Hoyas tried to dig themselves out of the hole as graduate student Brianna Jones got hot midway through the second quarter.  Jones made three-straight jumpers as the pace picked up.
  • Her efforts were matched on the other end as SHU continued to build the lead and went into the break on top 39-23.
  • Seton Hall managed to go up by as much as 23 late in the third period.  However, the Hoyas would not go away as the squad staged a 6-0 run including four free throws and a layup from junior Tatiana Thompson to make it 57-40 going into the final stanza.
  • The Pirates continued to push late in the game and even five 3-pointers in the final quarter, including three from Barnes, wasn't enough.
  • GU staged a 15-0 run over the final four minutes of play, but eventually fell 79-60.

Of Note
  • Barnes led the way with a career-high 26 points and Jones added 11 as the two Hoyas notching double digits.
  • Senior Anita Kelava had a team-high 10 rebounds, while sophomore Tayanna Jones was second with six.
  • Georgetown shot 40 percent in the game hitting 21-of-52 shots, while Seton Hall was 45 percent from the field hitting 31-of-69 including 48 points in the paint.
  • GU was outrebounded 39-32 and committed 23 turnovers to the Pirate's 13.
