WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Baseball Head Coach
Pete Wilk has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2020 baseball season. The Hoyas will play a challenging slate with 18 home games at Shirley Povich Field and six games against opponents that reached the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
2020 BIG EAST PLAY
- The Blue & Gray will open BIG EAST Conference play at home against Villanova the weekend of March 27-29. The Hoyas will also host Xavier (April 9-11) and Seton Hall (May 14-16) at Shirley Povich Field. The series against the Pirates will close out the regular season and the matchup on May 15 will serve as GU's Senior Day.
- Georgetown will hit the road for three BIG EAST series including trips to Butler (April 3-5), St. John's (April 17-19) and Creighton (May 1-3).
NONCONFERENCE SERIES
- The Hoyas will open the 2020 season with consecutive weekends in North Carolina. Georgetown will play a neutral series against Navy, Feb. 14-16, before returning the following weekend for a three-game series at Davidson.
- The Blue & Gray will play three road games against three different opponents in Virginia the weekend of Feb. 28 – March 1, playing at Richmond (Friday), VCU (Saturday) and William & Mary (Sunday).
- Georgetown will head to Florida for Spring Break, playing eight games in 10 days. The Hoyas will play neutral games at the Snowbird Baseball Classic against the University of Illinois-Chicago (March 6 & 8) and Iowa (March 7) to open the trip. After a road game at FGCU (March 10), GU will take on Army West Point (March 11) before playing three games against Lafayette (March 13-15).
- The Hoyas will host their first home series the weekend of March 20-22 against Coppin State at Shirley Povich Field.
- Georgetown will play a split series against UMBC during the bye weekend of BIG EAST play. The Hoyas will host the Retrievers at Shirley Povich Field, April 24-25, before making the return trip to Catonsville, Maryland for a matchup on April 26.
MIDWEEK ACTION
- The Hoyas will play nine midweek games in 2020, including three home-and-home series.
- Georgetown will play at George Washington on Feb. 18 before the Colonial visit Shirley Povich Field on April 15.
- The Hoyas will make the trip to Maryland Eastern Shore on Feb. 25 before hosting the Hawks on May 6.
- The Blue & Gray will visit George Mason on March 18 and the Patriots will make the return trip three weeks later on April 7.
- The Hoyas will host Coppin State on March 3 in their home opener at Shirley Povich Field. GU will also play road midweek games at Navy (March 25) and UMBC (April 21).
Georgetown is coming off of a 2019 season that saw it finish with a record of 22-34. The Hoyas went 7-11 in BIG EAST play, finishing in fifth place, one game out from a postseason berth. A GU-record five Hoyas were selected to All-BIG EAST teams, while the program also set a record with four players taken in the 2019 MLB Draft.
