WASHINGTON – Georgetown football's freshman defensive lineman
Max Villar was named to the 2020 National Football Foundation (NFF) Team of Distinction. Nominated by the NFF Miami Touchdown Club Chapter, Villar was one of 83 graduating high school seniors, out of a pool of 3,500 student-athletes, to be recognized in June.
"I am humbled and blessed to have earned this prestigious award from the National Football Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame," said Villar. "I eat, sleep and breathe football and my passion for the game has disciplined me and translated to great results in the classroom and in the chase of becoming the best version of myself. This award is a testament that hard work always pays off. I'm hoping to be an example to others and prove that with discipline, dedication and hard work, anything is possible and dreams do come true."
The criteria to make the team includes but is not limited to academic achievement, athletic accolades and community involvement. Each chapter is limited to one honoree, distinguishing them as the top scholar-athlete from all the high schools covered by the chapter. As part of the award, all of the honorees will be part of a permanent digital display at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
Villar was a three-year starter and two-year captain at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami. He earned the team's Leadership Award for three-consecutive years and helped lead Christopher Columbus to four district championships, two regional championships and the 2019 state championship. As a senior, Villar recorded 57 tackles, 19 TFL, 13 sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. He was also a member of the wrestling and track & field teams, winning regional and district championships in the discus, and helping lead Christopher Columbus to the 2019 track & field state championship.
An honor roll student, Villar was an AP Scholar and a member of the Business Honor Society. He is currently in the McDonough School of Business.
