WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will tip off the 2020-21 season on Wednesday night when the Hoyas host UMBC at McDonough Arena. The opening tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
- The Blue & Gray is coming off a 15-17 campaign during the 2019-20 season, which included four wins over ranked opponents.
- Seniors Jahvon Blair (10.8 ppg) and Jamorko Pickett (10.2 ppg) are GU's returning leading scorers, while Pickett (6.3 rpg) and sophomore Qudus Wahab (4.3 rpg) are Georgetown's top returners in the frontcourt.
- The Hoyas return seven letterwinners from last year's squad, while bringing in nine newcomers with six freshmen and three graduate transfers.
SCOUTING UMBC
- UMBC finished with a 16-17 record last year, going 8-8 in the America East Conference and reaching the tournament's semifinals for the third-straight season.
- The Retrievers only lost two players to graduation, including leading scorer K.J. Jackson, and return six of their top seven minute earners.
- Darnell Rogers returns after averaging 14.0 ppg in seven games before injury ended his season. R.J Eytle-Rock (11.2 ppg) and Brandon Horvath (11.0 ppg) also return.
- Horvath (6.7 rpg) is also back as UMBC's leading rebounder.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
- The Hoyas are 3-0 all-time against the Retrievers, including a win in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. The two teams met at Capital One Arena during the 2019-20 season, with the Hoyas coming away with an 81-55 victory.
- Blair finished with 15 points, hitting a trio of 3-pointers, and Pickett had 12 points. Wahab came off the bench and had then-career highs of 10 points and nine rebounds, while also adding three blocks.
- Overall, the Hoyas are 6-0 all-time against current members of the America East Conference. Head Coach Patrick Ewing is 2-0 with a 76-55 win over Maine during the 2017-18 season, and last year's victory over the Retrievers.
COMING UP NEXT
The Hoyas will remain home as part of a six-game homestand to open the season, hosting Navy at McDonough Arena on Tuesday, December 1. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on CBSSN.
