Men’s Basketball Drops Nonconference Tilt to Navy

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's basketball team fell 78-71 to visiting Navy on Tuesday night at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas even their record at 1-1 on the season, while the Midshipmen improve to 3-1.

ON THE RECORD
"That's the way college, and all sports in general, is right now. You have to be able to get yourself going the best way you can. Everyone is used to playing in the playgrounds or in games growing up where there wasn't anyone out there but you and your guys. They've just got to play. Just have to get the job done." – Head Coach Patrick Ewing on the difficulties of playing games without fans in attendance

"We have to be able to stop people. We have to be able to take and make good shots. We also have to get the ball inside. It has to be an inside out attack. We have to get the ball inside by either posting it, driving it and then being able to find guys on the perimeter." – Ewing on what the team needs to do to be successful

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jahvon Blair and Jamorko Pickett both had 17 points and six rebounds to lead the Hoyas.
  • Qudus Wahab added 16 points with seven boards and Jalen Harris chipped in 12 points to go with seven assists.
  • Donald Carey led all players with nine rebounds and chimed in with eight points on 3-of-4 shooting, including both of his 3-point attempts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A tightly contested opening half was a two-possession game the entire frame. Georgetown kept pace from downtown, converting five of their eight field goals in the half from three – including a pair each from Blair and Pickett.
  • Blair's triple with 2:34 left pulled the Blue & Gray within one down 24-23 before Pickett, following a Navy bucket, knotted things up at 26-26 with two minutes to play. The Midshipmen would close out the half with a three of their own to take a 29-26 advantage into the locker room.
  • An 11-2 run coming out of the break put the Hoyas up 37-31 and gave them their largest lead of the night. Jalen Harris led the charge with a pair of 3-pointers, while Carey also knocked one down from beyond the arc.
  • Navy kept pace though, answering basket-for-basket before tying things up 52-52 at the 10:21 mark courtesy of a 7-2 run.
  • Georgetown would take another four-point lead, up 58-54 with 8:03 remaining, but a 7-2 spurt from the Midshipmen, capped by a 3-pointer, gave Navy a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the game.
OF NOTE
  • Blair moved into the top 10 all-time in career threes on the Hilltop, tying Jessie Sapp with 148.
