ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Georgetown University softball team split a pair on the opening day of the Winthrop Tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The Hoyas fell 6-0 in game one of the day to Boston University (6-0) but bounced back in the second game with a 2-1 victory over Holy Cross (0-1). Junior
Savannah Jones gave GU its first victory of the season with a pair of home runs against the Crusaders. With the 1-1 record on the day, the Blue & Gray holds a 1-6 mark on the season.

How it Happened
- The Terriers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning when BU hit a two-run homer. They extended their lead to 5-0 in the off of a two-run double and a single.
- BU scored three more runs in the same inning off of a two-run double, followed by a single to shortstop to extend its lead to 5-0.
- Junior NeNe Campos hit the team's first double of the season in the bottom of the third but wasn't able to capitalize off of the opportunity to put GU on the board.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Hoyas got the bats going with back-to-back hits from sophomores Kiki Besnard and Mae Forshey. Forshey managed to double to right center and send Besnard home, but Besnard was thrown out on the throw.
- Junior Savannah Jones doubled to left field in Georgetown's final at bat but was left on base as the Hoyas dropped a 6-0 decision to the Terriers.
Of Note
- Senior Katie Vannicola got the nod in the circle and pitched the first 3.0 innings. Vannicola allowed five runs off of three hits, walked one and struck out three.
- Sophomore Cassie Henning pitched the next 3.0 innings and allowed a pair of hits off of her and struck out one.
- Senior Casey Kozak finished it off in the circle for GU in the final at bat for the Terriers. Kozak allowed one more run and struck out one.
- Forshey went 2-for-3 at the plate, a team high and recorded her first double of the season. Jones and Campos also had doubles against BU while Besnard rounded out those with hits on the day.
- Boston U's Ali DuBois pitched a complete game and allowed five hits and struck out 11.
vs. Holy Cross
How it Happened
- Holy Cross got on the board early on in the first inning with a double to left field, scoring the runner on second to take a 1-0 lead.
- Georgetown tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning when Jones homered out of left field on a full count with two outs.
- Jones kept the rhythm going in her next at bat in the bottom of the fifth with another home run and gave GU a 2-1 lead.
Of Note
- Junior London Diller pitched a complete game for the Blue & Gray. She allowed one run off of four hits and had a career-high nine strikeouts.
- Jones was 2-for-2 at the plate. Her home runs were the team's first of the season.
- Holy Cross' Kelly Nelson went 6.0 innings in the circle and allowed two runs off of two hits. She struck out seven.
