Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Georgetown Falls to No. 12/13 DePaul

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell 87-69 to the No. 12/13 DePaul University Blue Demons Friday evening in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at McDonough Arena.  With the loss, the Blue & Gray falls to 5-21 on the season and 2-13 in the BIG EAST while the Blue Demons improve to 25-3 overall and 15-1 in the league.

How it Happened
  • The Blue Demons opened the scoring with a second-chance layup three minutes in, but the Hoyas answered with a layup by senior Anita Kelava on the other end.
  • DePaul would hit a jumper, however, graduate student Taylor Barnes knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Hoyas the lead.
  • An 8-0 DePaul run would quiet the GU momentum, and even a trey by graduate student Brianna Jones wasn't enough as the Blue Demons followed it with another big run.
  • At the end of the first, GU trailed 22-11.
  • The Blue Demon press continued to cause problems for the Blue & Gray throughout the second quarter as the Hoyas went into the break down 54-22.
  • Georgetown could not find an answer in the second half eventually falling 87-69.

Of Note
  • Georgetown had four players in double figures as Barnes led the way with 13 points and sophomore Nikola Kovacikova had 11 along with three steals.
  • Kelava added 10 points and four blocks, while sophomore Cassandra Gordon tallying 10.
  • Sophomore Tayanna Jones scored nine points and pulled down a squad-high 12 rebounds.
  • Georgetown shot 47 percent from the field hitting 26-of-55 shots while the Blue Demons managed 42 percent hitting 32-of-76.
  • The Blue & Gray was outrebounded 48-30 and committed 20 turnovers to DePaul's 16.
