WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team downed the Princeton Tigers 5-2 on Saturday afternoon on day two of the Colonial Classic, hosted by George Washington. Seniors
Noelle Holiday and
Alexa Dolby led GU to the victory as the Hoyas advance to 4-13 on the season and Princeton drops to 3-3 overall.
How it Happened
- The Hoyas opened up the scoring early on in the top of the first from a walk, a hit by pitch and an RBI single from Holiday to grab an early 1-0 lead.
- Princeton tied it up in the bottom of the third off of a Georgetown error.
- GU answered in its next at bat to extend its lead to 3-1. With two runners on base, Dolby singled to first base and brought in the pair of RBIs.
- In the top of the sixth, Dolby landed on base with a single and was able to reach home on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.
- The Tigers scored another run in the bottom of the sixth off of a sacrifice hit.
- Holiday sealed the 5-2 win in her final at bat in the seventh with a homer out of left field.
Of Note
- Junior London Diller was credited with the win. The junior allowed a pair of runs off of five hits, walked four and struck out six in 6.0 innings of work.
- Senior Katie Vannicola finished the game in the circle, allowing just one hit off of her.
- Dolby had a game high of three hits on the day while Holiday had two. They each brought in a pair of RBIs for the Hoyas.
- Sophomores Kiki Besnard and Mae Forshey each landed a double and Holiday recorded a home run, her fifth of the season.
- The Hoyas had nine total hits on the day to Princeton's six and committed one error while the Tigers made two.
