Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – The Georgetown University women's basketball team lost 60-42 to the Butler Bulldogs on Friday evening in Indianapolis at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. With the loss, the Blue & Gray falls to 4-19 on the season and 1-11 in the BIG EAST while the Bulldogs improve to 16-6 overall and 8-3 in the BIG EAST Conference.
How it Happened
- The Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-0 lead forcing a Hoya timeout. GU came out of it with a layup from Kovacikova, but Butler managed a pair of free throws.
- Graduate student Taylor Barnes came down and hit back-to-back 3-pointers to pull the Blue & Gray within four 12-8. After a BU bucket, Barnes answered again with a jumper as the spark for the Hoyas.
- A buzzer beater at the end of the first made it 21-10 in favor of the Bulldogs.
- Butler led by as much as 16 midway through the second stanza as Barnes and classmate Brianna Jones battled back.
- A jumper from Jones cut the lead to 29-17, but BU managed a late 5-0 run to make it 34-17 at the half.
- The Bulldogs went ahead by as much as 20 in the third period, but the Blue & Gray would not go away quietly.
- Trailing by 17, senior Anita Kelava knocked down a pair of buckets followed by a steal by classmate Marvellous Osagie-Erese and a fast-break layup by sophomore Nikola Kovacikova to make it 41-30 and force the Butler timeout.
- The Hoyas added a stop and a Barnes free throw following the timeout, but as the game began to get more physical Butler pulled away. The Bulldogs led 50-32 at the end of the third quarter.
- Both teams were ice cold at the start of the final stanza, and despite some late treys by sophomore Cassandra Gordon, GU never found a way to make a run eventually falling 60-42.
Of Note
- Barnes was the lone Hoya in double figures with 17 points to her credit and Gordon followed with eight.
- Jones pulled down a squad-high eight rebounds to go along with five points on the evening.
- Georgetown shot 29 percent from the field hitting 17-of-58 shots while the Bulldogs shot 33 percent hitting 21-of-64.
- The Blue & Gray was outrebounded by Butler 46-38 and forced 12 turnovers while committing 16.
