PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Georgetown University baseball team outhit Army West Point, but dropped a 6-4 decision on Wednesday afternoon as part of the Snowbird Baseball Classic at North Charlotte Regional Park. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 4-13, while the Black Knights move to 6-9.
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Angelo Tonas started on the mound and pitched 6.0-plus innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out two.
- Chase Walter gave up two unearned runs in 2.0 innings of relief and Carter Cousins fired a perfect inning with one strikeout.
- Will Gersky and Alex Gamache led the offense with three hits and an RBI apiece. Gersky also scored three runs, while Gamache was on base four times with a walk.
- Georgetown outhit Army 11-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hoyas opened the scoring in the second inning as two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Tony Barreca hit a high chopper to the third baseman for an RBI ground out as Gersky crossed the plate to give GU a 1-0 lead.
- Army scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to go up 3-1.
- Georgetown tied the game in the bottom of the sixth as Eddie McCabe doubled, Gersky tripled and Gamache singled to score two runs and knot things at three.
- Army reclaimed the lead with two runs in the seventh and an unearned run in the eighth.
- The Hoyas pulled to within 6-4 in the bottom of the eighth as an RBI infield single by Ryan P. Davis scored Gersky, but that is as close as they could get.
