WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team went 1-1 on the opening day of the UNCW Softball Invitational. The Hoyas downed North Dakota 4-2 in the opener and later fell to host UNCW 9-1 in five innings. With the split record on the day, the Blue & Gray moves to 6-14 on the season.

How it Happened
- In the top of the second, senior Delaney Darden landed on base via a walk and sophomore Kiki Besnard managed to score Darden with a double to center field.
- North Dakota (6-14) answered in its at bat with a one-run single to tie it up.
- Georgetown put a pair of runners on base in the fifth via a hit by pitch and a double. Sophomore Mae Forshey brought in two more runs for the Blue & Gray with a single through the right side to make it 3-1.
- The Fighting Hawks made it a one-run game in the bottom of the inning off of a home run.
- Junior Savannah Jones extended the lead for the Hoyas in the sixth as she led off the inning with a triple and managed to score off of a sacrifice fly by junior London Diller.
- The Hoya defense was able to hold UND from scoring as they sealed a 4-2 victory.
Of Note
- Diller got the start in the circle and threw the first 5.0 innings. The junior allowed a pair of runs off of three hits while walking three and striking out four.
- Four Hoyas had hits on the day, including Besnard and freshman Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza who landed doubles while Jones recorded her second triple of the season.
- Jones' triple moves her up on the all-time list at Georgetown to tie for third with five.
- Forshey had a game-high two RBIs. Besnard and Diller also recorded RBIs on the day.
vs. UNCW
How it Happened
- The Seahawks (7-13) grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second off of a pair of home runs.
- Forshey put Georgetown in the scoring column in the fourth reaching home on an error by the outfield.
- UNCW responded in the bottom of the inning with four more runs off of three hits, extending its lead to 7-1.
- UNCW managed to score another pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth off two hits to end the game in five innings with a final score of 9-1.
Of Note
- Sophomore Cassie Henning went 3.0 innings in the circle and gave up three runs off of six hits. Senior Casey Kozak relieved Henning for the next 1.2 innings and allowed six runs off of five hits.
- Forshey led the squad with a pair of hits on the day and scored the lone run for the Hoyas.

The Blue & Gray will return to action on Saturday, March 7 for another pair of games as part of the UNCW Softball Invitational. Georgetown will take the field at 10 a.m. for a rematch against UNCW and later at 3 p.m. against Presbyterian. Live stats for both games will be available at GUHoyas.com.
