Hoyas Go 1-1 on Second Day of UNCW Invitational

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team went 1-1 on the second day of the UNCW Softball Invitational in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Hoyas defeated UNCW 14-6 and later lost to Presbyterian 3-0. With the split record, GU moves to 7-15 on the season.

How it Happened
  • The Hoyas started out strong as Mae Forshey hit a two-run homer to center field in the top of the first.
  • UNCW responded in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back homers and brought in three RBIs to grab a 3-2 lead.
  • Georgetown tied it up in the next inning when Ciara Sullivan scored on a passed ball.
  • In the top of the third, the Blue & Gray grabbed a 4-3 lead when Savannah Jones homered to left field.
  • The Hoyas kept the momentum going into the fourth inning when Deirdre Gallo scored on a fielder's choice. Shortly after, Sullivan stole home and made it 6-3.
  • The Seahawks made it a one-run game in the fifth inning.
  • Georgetown had a dominant at bat in the seventh inning with eight runs to seal a 14-6 victory. The Hoyas recorded seven hits off of a pair of hits from Noelle Holiday, Forshey, London Diller and Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza.
 
Of Note
  • Diller pitched a complete game in the circle. She gave up six runs off of seven hits, walked four and struck out seven.
  • Sullivan led the Hoyas with three hits on the day. Forshey and Holiday each brought in three runs and both landed doubles on the day. Forshey and Jones also recorded home runs.

How it Happened
  • Presbyterian entered the scoring column in the first inning off of a throwing error by the Hoyas.
  • The Blue Hose advanced to 2-0 in the fourth inning off of a fielder's choice.
  • Presbyterian sealed the 3-0 win in the sixth with an RBI single.
 
Of Note
  • Katie Vannicola threw a complete game for GU in game two. She gave up three runs off of seven hits, walked two and struck out a career-high five.
  • Sullivan led the Hoyas with a hit on the day.
