Georgetown Edged by UC Davis

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's lacrosse team fell in a close one to the UC Davis Aggies Sunday afternoon in Davis, Calif.  The Hoyas dropped the 15-14 decision to move to 4-3 on the season while the Aggies improved to 3-2 on the year.

How it Happened
  • Lynch and Bruno opened the scoring with back-to-back goals before the Aggies got on the board.
  • On the ensuing draw control, the ball went to senior defender Katie Hudson who took it herself and buried it.  Junior Mary Pagano then followed with her first of the game.
  • The Aggies found the back of the net again, but junior Cameron McGee sparked a 4-0 run with a goal at 14:17 as sophomore Annabelle Albert, Bruno and sophomore Celia Walsh all scored.
  • UC Davis came roaring back with a 5-1 run over the final 10 minutes of first half action as Lynch was the lone Hoya to find the back of the cage.
  • The Hoyas went into the break leading 10-8 as the Aggies scored in the final second of the first half.
  • Pagano scored off of a free position less than a minute into the second half, but the Aggies had an answer.
  • At 24:13, a free position goal from Lynch marked her third of the contest, however three more UCD goals tied the game at 12
  • Pagano stopped the run at 10:12 as GU regained the lead but the Aggies came back on a 2-0 run to take their first lead of the game.
  • It was senior Liza Liotta who went low to knot it back at 14 but at 3:57 UC Davis scored one last time.
  • The tying goal would never come as the Hoyas fell 15-14.

Of Note
  • Pagano and Lynch led the way with three goals apiece, while Bruno added two.
  • GU outshot UC Davis 36-32 and forced 15 turnovers while committing 14.
  • Georgetown held an 18-12 advantage in draw controls, as sophomore Jordyn Sabourin led the way with eight.
  • In the cage, senior Micheline DiNardo tallied 10 saves while the Aggie keepers combined for 14 stops.
