Hoyas Fall at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS – The Georgetown University women's basketball team (1-2, 1-2 BIG EAST) fell to the Butler University Bulldogs (1-7, 1-6 BIG EAST) 58-40 on Wednesday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Hinkle Fieldhouse. It marked GU's first game since December 31.

How it Happened
  • Butler jumped out to a 13-0 lead before a 3-pointer from graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris ended the run. It marked Bolden-Morris' first points on the Hilltop.
  • Georgetown would cut it to 10 on a layup from graduate student Taylor Baur, but Butler controlled the first quarter leading 19-5 at the end of the stanza.
  • Freshman guard Kelsey Ransom got hot early in the second with a pair of quick layups.
  • Midway through, Butler managed a 6-0 run before a Bolden-Morris trey stopped the momentum.
  • In the final minute of the first half, the Bulldogs would tally four points to make it 31-15 at the break.
  • The Hoyas managed balanced scoring in the third but could not find a run to overtake the large Bulldog advantage.
  • With five minutes to go in the game, Baur took over down low with six quick points to cut it to 14, 48-34.
  • That would be as close as the Hoyas would get eventually falling 58-40.
Of Note
  • Baur led the way with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double, while Bolden-Morris tallied nine points.
  • Sophomore Graceann Bennett pulled in a career-high 16 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass, to go along with four points in the game.
  • The Hoyas shot 23.1 percent (15-65) but allowed 39.6 percent (21-53) shooting by the Bulldogs.
  • GU outrebounded Butler 45-36 and forced 14 turnovers.
  • Wednesday was the first for Bolden-Morris who joined the squad earlier this week after graduating from Boston College in December.
Schedule Notes
  • The Hoyas will return home on Saturday when the squad hosts the No. 19/22 DePaul University Blue Demons at 2 p.m. at McDonough Arena. The game will be available live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with Jeremy Huber and Monika Moore calling the action.
  • All Georgetown women's basketball home games are currently scheduled to be played at McDonough Arena. In accordance with Washington, D.C. regulations which limit the size of in-person gatherings, fans are regrettably not permitted to attend home games at this time.
