Hoyas Drop Decision to No. 19/22 DePaul

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team dropped a 78-54 decision to No. 19/22 DePaul in Saturday afternoon BIG EAST Conference matchup at McDonough Arena. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 1-4 both overall and in the BIG EAST while the Blue Demons advance to 8-4 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

How it Happened
  • While DePaul opened up the scoring in the first minute, the Hoyas came out strong until GU turnovers helped the Blue Demons to take control of the first quarter, leading 27-10.
  • Early baskets in the second quarter from sophomore Taylia Stimpson and graduate student Milan Bolden-Harris kept the Blue & Gray in the game.
  • Kelsey Ransom's strong defensive efforts allowed her to score six easy baskets for GU, cutting DePaul's lead to 17.
  • A pair of free throws by the Blue Demons put them ahead 47-27 going into the half.
  • DePaul came out right away in the second half with a 3-pointer but neither team could find a way to score for the next four minutes until Ransom visited the charity stripe.
  • Balanced scoring kept the momentum going for the Blue & Gray, but the team could not manage a run large enough to overcome DePaul's 20-point lead.
  • A strong play down low by junior Jillian Archer in the last 10 seconds decreased the Blue Demons' lead 63-41 heading into the final stanza.
  • The Blue & Gray held DePaul to 15 points in the fourth, its lowest-scoring quarter, but the Blue Demons managed to still come out on top 78-54.
Of Note
  • Ransom and Bolden-Morris led the Hoyas in double digit-scoring with 13 and 11, respectively. Stimpson and Archer rounded out the top three scorers with nine apiece.
  • Graduate student Taylor Baur added a career-high 14 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass, to go along with five points. Ransom and sophomore Graceann Bennett pulled down seven boards each.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 38.2 percent (21-55) but allowed 37.9 percent (25-66) shooting by the Blue Demons.
  • Georgetown outrebounded DePaul 45-35 and forced 15 turnovers.
