Box Score WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team lost its fifth five-set marathon of the season with a 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 24-26, 25-18, 15-10) setback to visiting Xavier in BIG EAST action on Saturday afternoon. The Hoyas fall to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in league competition while the Musketeers improve to 8-6 and move to 3-1 in conference play.

How it Happened
  • Georgetown took an early 7-3 lead to start the match and force a Xavier timeout but the Musketeers responded with an 8-1 run to claim momentum. The Hoyas were unable to regain the lead in the frame as the visitors took the opening set 25-20.
  • In the second, Williams and Serrett combined for nine kills and Serrett had four blocks as the Hoyas took another early lead before a mid-set Xavier rally. Tied at 15-15, the Blue & Gray went on a 3-0 run and didn't look back en route to the 25-22 set victory.
  • Williams kept her hot hand going in the third frame with six kills. Another early Hoya lead at 10-4 was countered by Xavier as the two squads traded leads to a 23-23 draw. Back-to-back kills from Williams and Peyton Wilhite gave the Hoyas a set point that was countered before eventually winning the stanza 26-24.
  • Xavier hit a solid .324 in the fourth set, and after a competitive start to the frame, pulled away following a 9-9 tie to even the match at two sets apiece with the 25-19 set win.
  • In the fifth, Georgetown led 5-2 early before the Musketeers rallied back to take a 7-6 lead. The Hoyas responded to go up 9-7, but a subsequent 7-0 Xavier run sealed the match victory for the visitors.
