BALTIMORE, MD. – The Georgetown University football team dropped Saturday's contest to Lehigh, 23-9, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania at Goodman Stadium.
ON THE RECORD
- "Proud of the overall effort today," said Head Coach Rob Sgarlata. "A number of players stepped and played a significant number of snaps for the first time. Following a great start to the second half, we were unable to maintain the momentum following Joshua Tomas' touchdown. We will continue to work to play at a higher level for all four quarters as we prepare for next weekend."
KEY STATS
- Joshua Tomas registered a touchdown for his third-straight game, reeling in 59 yards on six receptions along the way.
- Joseph Brunell racked up 204 passing yards while completing 23 of his 38 attempts, including a 4-yard touchdown to Tomas.
- Tony Gyimah Jr. led the defense with eight tackles while Palmer Nix and Justin Fonteneaux racked up seven apiece on the afternoon.
- The Hoyas recorded their first safety of the season and first since their Oct. 6, 2018, matchup against Fordham.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Georgetown and Lehigh were held scoreless through the first quarter.
- Lehigh struck first with a field goal just under the 11-minute mark to take a 3-0 edge.
- The Mountain Hawks scored a 34-yard touchdown just past the halfway mark to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
- Brunell opened the second half with a 4-yard touchdown to Tomas, who scurried to the outside and reached out for the score to pull the Hoyas to within three, 10-7.
- After Lehigh's second field goal, Georgetown capitalized on a bad snap and secured a safety to start the fourth quarter and pull to within four, 13-9.
- The Mountain Hawks went on to score 10 unanswered points to end the game and knocked off the Hoyas, 23-9.
