Hoyas Drop Season Opener to Dartmouth 69-60

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team dropped a 69-60 decision to the visiting Dartmouth College Big Green on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Arena. Attendance at GU's downtown home was 8,461, the second-best attended season opener under Ewing's tenure since his Hoya coaching debut on Nov. 12, 2017 (9.212). With the loss, the Hoyas open at 0-1 on the season while the Big Green even their record at 1-1.

ON THE RECORD
"As we go along, hopefully we look back at this game and say this is the launching point of our season. All the things I've been talking about to them all these months, I hope everything will click in and they realize the opportunities they have to be good." - Head Coach Patrick Ewing

  • Aminu Mohammed made his NCAA debut with 17 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor. The Hoya freshman also racked up six rebounds and a pair of assists in his 33 minutes of action.

  • The Blue & Gray outrebounded Dartmouth, 39-34, including 10 offensive boards to the visitors' seven.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Harris scored the first bucket of the season, hitting a 3-pointer to break up Dartmouth's 8-0 run to open the contest.
  • Mohammed drained his first collegiate basket at the 16:21 mark of the first, before going on to finish the half with nine points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor.
  • After an 18-2 Big Green run over a seven-minute span, Jordan Riley made the Capital One Arena crowd roar with a decisive dunk to disrupt Dartmouth's early rhythm and jump-start a 7-1 run to end the half with the Hoyas trailing 36-21.
  • Georgetown came out firing in the second frame, going on a 12-0 run to pull the home squad within two points, its smallest deficit since the opening minute. Kaiden Rice scored six of the team's dozen points to creep back into the contest.
  • An emphatic dunk by Mohammed with just more than 11 minutes left in the second half knotted the game at 48 and sent the crowd into a ruckus as the Blue & Gray erased its 16-point deficit.
  • No more than 10 seconds later, a steal at midcourt propelled Riley the other way, slamming home two points and giving Georgetown its first lead of the game, 50-48.
  • Dartmouth reclaimed the lead with 14 unanswered points at the midway mark, before Carey drained a 3-pointer to end the run.
