Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Georgetown Downs Loyola Maryland 66-55

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team bounced back downing the Loyola University of Maryland Greyhounds 66-55 on Wednesday afternoon at McDonough Arena. With the win, Georgetown improved to 3-2 overall, while Loyola dropped to 2-4 on the year.

Head Coach James Howard
  • "We're still looking to see how we can get better as a team. I thought we had some adverse moments where we allowed them to come back into the game, but dug deep defensively and made a run. We have to learn to be more consistent on the offensive side and to compete for 40 minutes. When we are able to do that, we will turn a corner and be dangerous."
How it Happened
  • Loyola opened the game with a triple, but the Hoyas came down and converted the three-point play from sophomore Kelsey Ransom.
  • Five quick points from graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris made it 10-3 as Georgetown continued to hold the small advantage early.
  • A late Greyhound bucket made it 16-11 at the end of the first.
  • Georgetown kept pushing in the second quarter going ahead by as much as 10 on a triple from Ransom.
  • Loyola would be unable to mount a comeback as a hook shot from freshman Brianna Scott made it 25-14 late in the period.
  • The Greyhounds would hit free throws with a minute left as GU went into the break leading 25-16.
  • Loyola staged an 8-0 run midway through the third to pull within four forcing Howard to call timeout.
  • Out of the break, senior Shanniah Wright hit a layup and Bolden-Morris added two points to give GU some breathing room eventually leading 39-32 at the end of the period.
  • The final stanza belonged to the Blue & Gray when Bolden-Morris' jumper sparked an 11-3 run putting the Hoyas up 50-35.
  • The Greyhounds didn't go away, however, coming back to make it a seven-point game with two minutes remaining.
  • A free throw from senior Jillian Archer and a 3-pointer from Bolden-Morris settled the game as Georgetown eventually held on for the 66-55 victory.
Of Note
  • Bolden-Morris led the way with 21 points, while Ransom managed 15 points and five assists.
  • Archer was active on the glass with a squad-best eight rebounds.
  • The Hoyas shot 57.5 percent (23-40) from the field as well as 57.1 percent (8-14) from beyond the arc.
