Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Georgetown Falls to Temple on Late Comeback

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team controlled the game until the final few minutes on Tuesday evening, but a late comeback from the Temple University Owls proved too much as GU fell 49-47 at McDonough Arena. With the loss, Georgetown moves to 3-3 overall, while Temple improves to 4-3 on the year.

Head Coach James Howard
  • "In a loss like this one, when we felt like we really had control of the game, we needed to understand that no team was going to stop playing. Until there is no time on the clock, we need to make good decisions with the basketball. There are some things that I know we can be better at, and it didn't happen tonight which hurt us down the stretch. It's a tough loss, it's hard to walk into the locker room and have to see the faces of your players because they are hurting since it was a game they know they should have won."
How it Happened
  • Sophomore Kelsey Ransom started hot with a 6-0 run of her own to give the Hoyas the lead.
  • Temple would not find the same momentum as solid play down low allowed the Hoyas to hold on to the 12-6 advantage to end the first period.
  • A 5-0 run capped off with a jumper from graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris midway through the second gave GU the 19-9 lead.
  • The Owls tried to answer back, but a free throw from Bolden-Morris to end the first half made the score 24-17 at the break.
  • Temple cut it to six on two occasions early in the third period before a triple from sophomore Yasmin Ott sparked a 7-0 run.
  • On the other end of the floor, the defense made stops and the lead ballooned to 13, 35-22, before Temple quieted the crowd with a 3-pointer of its own.
  • Georgetown would hang on to lead 38-27 at the end of the third.
  • With the Hoyas looking at a 10-point advantage, Temple would mount a late comeback cutting it to one at the 2:56 mark with a 9-0 run.
  • Ransom took over once more with back-to-back steals and three quick points.
  • Temple would answer with a triple to pull within one once again as the game would come down to the wire.
  • The 3-pointer sparked a 6-0 run which the Owls used to close out the game as Georgetown could not find the answer late falling 49-47.
Of Note
  • Ransom led the way with 15 points as the lone Hoya in double figures.
  • Junior Graceann Bennett was active on the glass with a squad-best 10 rebounds to go along with eight points.
  • The Hoyas shot 30.2 percent (16-53) from the field, GU allowed just 29.6 percent (16-54) shooting by the Owls.
  • Georgetown outrebounded Temple 43-38, but had 17 turnovers to the Owls' 16.
