WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team earned its first BIG EAST Conference victory of the year behind a season-high performance from sophomore
Kelsey Ransom, downing the Providence College Friars, 55-47, on Sunday afternoon at the Alumni Hall in Rhode Island. With the win, the Hoyas rise to 4-4 on the season and 1-1 in the conference, while the Friars fall to 4-5 this year and 1-1 in league play.
Head Coach James Howard
- "We challenged them in the locker room to make the first run and allow them to take the first timeout and we did. Our whole thing has always been about defense and being the aggressor and I think when you see where we were at the half with the score, it played to our favor, holding them to 19 points. We saw a team that found a will to win tonight and that's what you need in a close game. Kelsey Ransom played big for us with her downhill play, Graceann Bennett with down low blocking and Yasmin Ott hitting a timely three in the corner on our run, I can't say enough about our kids making plays when needed. I think it was a blessing to us what a road win can do for us this early in December. It can rejuvenate you and the locker room was ecstatic. Knowing we're going into Christmas .500 in the BIG EAST, we'll take it."
