Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hoyas Pick Up 68-63 Comeback Victory

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team used a big second-half comeback behind a career night from graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris to pick up the 68-63 victory over crosstown rival George Washington Thursday evening at McDonough Arena. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 5-4 on the season, while GW drops to an even 5-5 overall.

Head Coach James Howard
  • "Well, I didn't like was that start again, but I was very pleased with our ability to make the run after halftime. I thought we came out and Milan Bolden-Morris got hot for us and at the right time, hitting some key shots and we erased that 14-point lead. I was pleased with them understanding what we were trying to accomplish at halftime and they came out and they did that. They got stops and then they finished on the offensive side so that was a big key for us.  Anytime you can win at home it really helps you and I think it gives them some more confidence as we get ready for Monday's game."
How it Happened
  • Georgetown struggled to get going early on as the Colonials managed to lead by as much as 10 in the opening stanza.
  • All 11 of GU's first-quarter points came from senior Jillian Archer.
  • George Washington would hold onto the double-digit advantage for much of the second quarter. Looking at a late 14-point deficit, graduate student Anita Kelava managed the put back at the buzzer to make it 32-20 at the half.
  • Coming out of the locker room, Bolden-Morris put the team on her back and immediately went to work for the Blue & Gray hitting a pair of free throws.
  • At the 8:17 mark, Bolden-Morris would knock down back-to-back 3-pointers before sophomore Kelsey Ransom hit a pair of shots to pull the Blue & Gray within one, 36-35.
  • The Colonials would answer, but buckets from Archer and Bolden-Morris tied the game at 39 with 3:33 remaining in the third period.
  • Bolden-Morris added five more points and Ransom ended the frame with a free throw as the Hoyas had made the full comeback looking at a 47-41 lead. Georgetown outscored GW 27-9 in the stanza.
  • The fourth quarter belonged to the Hoyas as George Washington would never find a way back.
  • The Hoyas led by as much as 13, and Bolden-Morris continued to hit as Georgetown cruised to the 68-63 victory.
Of Note
  • Bolden-Morris registered a career-high 26 points to go along with four boards and two steals. She was 6-10 from beyond the arc and went 4-4 at the line.
  • Archer added 15 points and a team-high six rebounds as she went 6-8 from the field.
  • Ransom and Yasmin Ott scored nine points apiece, but shared the ball extremely well managing seven and six assists, respectively.
  • The Hoyas were outrebounded 34-31, but shot 50.0 percent (22-44) in the game while the defense held the Colonials to a 39.3 percent efficiency (24-61) from the field.
