Efficient Shooting Pushes Georgetown Past Pirates 81-75

WASHINGTON – For the second game in a row, five Hoyas finished the night in double-digit scoring as Georgetown bested the Seton Hall University Pirates 81-75 on Saturday night in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at McDonough Arena. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 7-10 on the season and 5-7 in league play, while the Pirates slip to 13-9 overall and 10-6 in conference action.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jamorko Pickett led five Hoyas in double figures with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 effort from beyond the arc. The senior added seven rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of blocks.
  • Chudier Bile (16), Dante Harris (14), Donald Craey (11) and Qudus Wahab (11) rounded out those in double figures.
  • Wahab grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Blue & Gray and record his fifth double-double of the season. The sophomore also managed a trio of blocks on the day.
  • Harris stuffed the stat sheet as he added seven rebounds and paced the offense with eight assists.
  • The Hoyas shot 50.0 percent (28-56) from the floor and 62.5 percent (10-16) from beyond the arc and outrebounded the Pirates 37-36. .
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The contest began with both teams going bucket-for-bucket, but a Pickett trey gave the Hoyas a 14-11 lead through the first five minutes of play.
  • Wahab knocked down both of his shots from the charity stripe to put the Hoyas up 28-16 with 9:16 on the clock
  • Seton Hall would battle back, closing the lead to just three, as Georgetown went into the halftime break up 38-35.
  • The start of the second period saw Seton Hall score seven unanswered points, but a hard-fought offensive rebound by Wahab gave Bile an easy layup to put the Hoyas on the board.
  • Seton Hall's inside shooting would edge them in front of Georgetown as the halfway point in the second frame approached, but a strong layup by Pickett squared the game at 53 with 11:33 left to play
  • The Hoyas continued to hold off the Pirates with the help of Carey, who twice hit deep balls, drew the foul and connected on his free throw for a pair of elusive four-point plays, placing Georgetown on top, 71-67, with just under five minutes to play.
  • One last push from the Pirates saw Pickett block a shot, then hit a jumper on the opposite end, as the seconds ticked down.
  • A free throw from Carey with three seconds left on the clock sealed a 81-75 victory over the Pirates
 
OF NOTE
  • Blair connected on a 3-pointer for the 30th-consecutive game, and his trey now gives him 192 for his career, keeping him third all-time at Georgetown, trailing only D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (250) and Jonathan Wallace (240). .
  • It was the second-straight game where five Hoyas were in double figures.
  • The game marked back-to-back games with GU shooting 50.0 percent from the floor or better.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HOYAS
The Hoyas will remain at home for the final game of a four-game homestand when they face UConn on Tuesday, February 23 at McDonough Arena. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on FS1.
