Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Falls 15-10 to No. 3/3 Syracuse

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-10 decision to the No. 3/3 Syracuse University Orange on Tueday afternoon at Cooper Field in GU's final nonconference game of the year. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 3-6 overall, while the Orange improve to 7-1 on the year.

Head Coach Ricky Fried
  • "Syracuse came out and played faster and harder than we did, we showed character by really competing in the second half but we need to be able to put more moments together. Hopefully we learned something by watching their intensity and high level of play that we can carry with us for the rest of the season."
How it Happened
  • Syracuse came out on fire scoring the first 10 goals over the first 13 minutes.
  • An Orange goal was sandwiched in between unassisted tallies from graduate student Michaela Bruno as Georgetown got on the board.
  • 'Cuse would add one more with 21 seconds remaining in the half as the Blue & Gray went into the locker room trailing 13-2 at the break.
  • The second half belonged to Georgetown as the Hoyas looked to mount a comeback after an early Syracuse goal.
  • Freshman Kylie Hazen cut the lead to 11 at 25:28, before the Orange hit their final of the contest at 18:29.
  • Senior Mary Pagano's goal out of a scramble would spark a 7-0 run to close out the game as she scored the hat trick in the series.
  • Four of the goals in the run were free position goals as the Hoyas attempted the comeback but the deficit was too much to overcome resulting in the 15-10 final.
Of Note
  • Pagano led the way for the Hoyas with the hat trick, while Bruno managed two goals and Hazen tallied a goal and an assist.
  • Also adding to the scoresheet was graduate students Natalia Lynch and Liza Liotta, junior Jordyn Sabourin and freshman Katie Goldsmith.
  • Georgetown was outshot 28-24, but tied the Orange on the draw with 13 apiece.
  • The Hoya defense forced 13 turnovers.
  • In the cage, sophomore Emily Gaven tallied 10 saves on the afternoon.
  • The contest was the first in a five-game homestand for the Blue & Gray.
Up Next

The contest is the first in a two game conference series as GU hosts the Golden Eagles at noon on Sunday at Cooper Field.
