Baseball Drops Season Finale

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Georgetown University baseball team dropped the final game of the 2021 season, falling 11-3 to Butler University on Saturday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. With the setback, the Hoyas close the season with a 6-25 record and 6-19 in conference play, while the Bulldogs finished at 14-23 overall and 8-13 in league action.
 
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Carter Bosch started and went 4.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits. He struck out six and walked three.  
  • Angelo Tonas pitched 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts. Kevin Gates retired both batters he faced.
  • Alex Rosen led the GU offense with a pair of hits, including a double, while driving in a run and scoring once.
  • Yareb Martinez and Andrew Ciufo each had two hits, while Martinez added an RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Butler opened the scoring in the top of the fifth, plating three runs on two hits, an error and three walks.
  • The Hoyas answered with three runs of their own in the sixth. After a single and walk put two runners on, Rosen doubled down the right field line to plate a run. Christian Ficca drove in another run with a ground out and an infield single from Martinez tied things up.
  • Two doubles in the top of the seventh gave the lead back to Butler, 4-3.
  • The Bulldogs added three runs in the eighth and four runs in the ninth to provide the final 11-3 score.
 
OF NOTE
  • The Hoyas recognized the program's 13 seniors prior to the game in a Senior Day ceremony.
