TOWSON, Md. – The Georgetown University field hockey team opened its season with a 3-2 win on the road against Appalachian State in a match hosted at Towson University Saturday. The Hoyas are now 1-0-0 on the season after their weekend trip to Towson, which included a game postponed Friday due to continuing lightning delays.
How it Happened
· After shaking the rust off in the first quarter, junior
Abby English scored early in the second quarter to start a strong period for the Hoyas' offense. Senior
Ali Cronin assisted on the play, and together they gave the Hoyas team its first goal of the season.

Sydney Stephenson scored another goal off a corner, assisted by English and Cronin, for the Hoyas late in the second period. Appalachian State answered quickly to bring the score within one, but the Hoyas maintained a 2-1 lead going into the half.

Emma Street opened the second half of play with a goal, pushing the Hoyas lead to two. Street found her rhythm with the team and had four shots on goal in the match.
· Appalachian State mounted a small comeback in the fourth, scoring with 12 minutes left in the period. The Mountaineers took seven shots to the Hoyas' zero in the final quarter.

Ciara Weets saved a shot by senior Friederike Stegen, who was named to the All-MAC Second team last year for the Mountaineers.
· Appalachian State had an opportunity to tie the game with six seconds left in the game, but the Mountaineers dinged a shot off the post and failed to find the net. The Hoyas walked away victorious.

Ciara Weets posted 12 saves on 14 shots on goal by Appalachian State, and the Mountaineers two goals came off rebounds.
