LEHIGH, Pa. – The Georgetown University field hockey team lost its third straight match on Sunday, falling to Lehigh University 2-0 in the matinée matchup. The Hoyas move to 2-3-0 on the season after facing defeat from the Mountain Hawks.
 
How it Happened
·         In a back-and-forth first quarter, the Hoyas took two shots and applied pressure early. The Mountain Hawks were the first to find the cage as Sarah Bonthuis scored with 40 seconds remaining in the period.
·         Lehigh kept the momentum going into the second quarter and quickly put another goal on the board, extending the lead to 2-0. 
Halle Gill put two shots on target during the period, but LU goalkeeper Maddie Kahn swatted them away.
·        Georgetown got on the board late in the first quarter when freshman 
Sophie Towne redirected a shot by Gill to find the top corner of the cage, bringing the Hoyas within one.
·         The Hoyas started the second half on the offensive, putting two shots on the board as the second half got underway. The Mountain Hawks answered and outshot the Hoyas 7-2 during the third quarter.
 ·         The Hoyas outpaced the Mountain Hawks in the final period, forcing LU to make three saves in the last quarter of play. Georgetown took six shots and didn't allow Lehigh any attempts on goal in the final 15 minutes.
·         Georgetown had a chance to tie the game late when it took two penalty corners in the final 30 seconds of the game.

Georgina Eberle took four shots after 
Ali Cronin delivered the ball off the corners. Kahn saved three of those four attempts to clinch a win for Lehigh.

·         
Sophie Towne scored the first goal of her collegiate career with her redirect in the second quarter.
·         The Hoyas have only allowed an average of 1.6 goals per game, and no opponent has scored more than two goals on the Georgetown squad.

Next weekend, the Hoyas return to Cooper Field for the first time since Oct. 18, 2019. Georgetown takes on Liberty University to open BIG EAST play on Friday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m., and the Hoyas face Lock Haven at home on Sunday, Sept.19 at 1 p.m.
