WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's tennis team competed in the Penn Invitational over the weekend and had mixed success in Philadelphia. The Hoyas faced off against four teams during the three-day dual match tournament hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
The Hoyas began the weekend against Drexel University's team on Friday to kick off the tournament. The Hoyas took home two wins in doubles matches against the Dragons. Senior

Adhvyte Sharma defeated Drexel's Xandy Hammitt and Sanil Jagtiani 6-3 in the single-set contest. Freshmen

Akira Morgenstern also came away with a win for Georgetown against Djordje Janackovic and Matvey Radionov. Graduate student

Charlie Suh dropped a match 6-2 against Alex de Sousa and Alan Jesudason. Senior
Carlos Grande and his partner, junior
Harry Yang, were defeated by Juan Manuel Sanchez and Gustav Wogen.
In the singles matches, the Hoyas posted four wins on Friday afternoon. Suh defeated Drexel's Wogen in the match, outscoring Wogen 6-1 and 6-3 in consecutive sets. Sharma faced off against Hammitt again in a back-and-forth contest, with the match going to three sets. Sharma came out victorious, beating Hammit 6-2 in the final set to seal the win. Bickel earned his first win of the season against Drexel's Jagtiani in two sets, scoring 6-1 and 6-2 in the match. Morgenstern faced Janackovic in the final matchup for the Hoyas and took down Drexel's senior 6-2 and 6-0 to give Georgetown an even 6-6 record on the day.
On Saturday, Georgetown's struggles began. Facing off against a combination Cornell University-Temple University squad, the Hoyas were unable to secure a win in any of the matches. In nine singles matches and four doubles matches, the Hoyas were able to keep the matches close but could not close out any with a win.
In the final day of competition, the Hoyas walked away with two wins in matches against St. John's University. Georgetown's Yang and Grande teamed up again and defeated an SJU pair 6-4 in the fourth doubles match of the day. Bickel also posted a win against Evan Felcher in two sets, scoring 6-2 and 6-1 for Georgetown's only singles win of the day.
The Hoyas will be back on the courts on Friday, October 8 at the University of Richmond for the River City Invitational.
