WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23) to visiting Marquette in BIG EAST action on Saturday. The Hoyas drop to 4-9 overall and 0-2 in conference play while the Golden Eagle improve to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in league competition.
"Another solid showing from us in set three," Head Coach
David Heller said. "We are knocking on the door and ready to bust through it. We are getting some great exposure for some of our younger players. Karis brought some service pressure off the bench, Kelly had some great runs that allowed us to score in transition and Lara provided a huge spark for us off the bench. Errors late in the sets still plagued us but we are fighting and that's something to be really proud about. This team has a lot of grit and our defense really gave Marquette some fits this afternoon."
Hoya Highlights
How it Happened
- Marquette took an early lead in the opening set and never trailed in the frame. The Hoyas kept things close early, but late rallies by the Golden Eagles gave the visitors a cushion that the Blue & Gray could not overcome.
- The second set was a battle as the two squads traded six ties and a pair of lead changes through a 12-12 tie. Marquette took control from there, closing out the set at 25-19 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
- Unwilling to go down without a fight, Georgetown went head-to-head with the Golden Eagles in a back-and-forth third set. With 12 ties and eight lead changes throughout the frame, neither team had more than a three-point advantage at any point – an 18-15 Hoya lead. Knotted up at 22-22, Marquette won the next two points and the Hoyas fought off a match point before falling 25-23.
Marquette Notes
- Taylor Wolf led the Golden Eagles with 17 kills and 16 assists for a double-double.
- Jenna Reitsman had 12 kills and 11 digs for a double-double as well.
- Defensively, Carly Skrabak led all players with 19 digs and Wolf had four blocks at the net as well.
