Hoyas Fall at No. 20/19 UConn

Box Score STORRS, Conn. – Georgetown University's men's basketball team fell, 96-73, to the No. 20/19 University of Connecticut Huskies on Tuesday evening at Gampel Pavilion. The Hoyas are 6-11 overall with a 0-6 mark in BIG EAST action while UConn moves to 14-4 with a 5-2 BIG EAST record.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Aminu Mohammed led a trio of Hoyas in double figures with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including a 3-for-4 performance from beyond the arc, a career best for the frosh. His seven rebounds was a squad best.
  • Collin Holloway added 11 points to go along with four rebounds and a pair of steals while Donald Carey chipped in 10 to round out those in double figures. Carey added a pair of assists in his 31 minutes of work.
  • For the game, Georgetown shot 45.0 percent (27-60) from the floor and 52.4 percent (11-21) from deep.
  • Georgetown managed six steals to UConn's five, but the Huskies forced 11 turnovers to GU's seven.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Holloway drained a triple before Timothy Ighoefe faded away to put the Hoyas on a 5-0 run to open GU's scoring and knot the game at 5-5 (18:08).
  • The Hoyas scored another five unanswered on a Carey layup and Rice trey, pulling GU to within six, 25-19 (9:48).
  • Carey sank back-to-back triples, including one that beat the shot clock, to cut the UConn lead to five, 36-31 (4:54).
  • Mohammed and Holloway each hit a jumper to close out the Hoya scoring before going into the break trailing, 52-40.
  • Georgetown scored four unanswered points on a Mohammed layup and two Holloway free throws for a 57-44 score (16:03).
  • UConn pulled away down the stretch and despite an 8-0 Hoya run to close the gap in the final two minutes, the Huskies held off the Hoyas for the 96-73 victory.
 
OF NOTE
  • GU hit eight treys in the opening frame, tying its season-high mark in any half set against Saint Joseph's (11/26).
 
UP NEXT
