Georgetown Drops Game to Red Storm

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell 80-52 to the St. John's University Red Storm on Tuesday evening at McDonough Arena in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. It marked the third contest in a five-game homestand and the third in five days for the Blue & Gray. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 6-9 on the season and 1-6 in league play.

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris sank a 3-pointer off of the opening tip as the Hoyas came out fired up.
  • Neither team could secure the lead until midway through the first period when St. John's (6-12, 2-6 BIG EAST) staged a 6-0 run to move ahead 14-9.
  • Georgetown answered with a steal from sophomore Kelsey Ransom and a layup by Bolden-Morris in transition as GU kept it within a possession.
  • A 7-0 Red Storm run over the final minute made it 27-15 at the end of the first.
  • Two quick SJU triples and a pair of free throws continued to build the deficit for the Hoyas early in the second period.
  • Bolden-Morris ended the run with a trey of her own, but the Blue & Gray had a long way back as the squad went into the half trailing 54-26.
  • St. John's would move the lead to as much as 30, but Ransom's traditional three-point play, and a trey from Bolden-Morris gave the Blue & Gray some energy. That was followed up by a second-chance bucket from freshman Ariel Jenkins to make it an 8-0 run for the Hoyas.
  • Despite the momentum, GU would not find a way to get closer making the score 71-43 at the end of the third period.
  • There would be no comeback in the final quarter as the Blue & Gray eventually fell 80-52.
Of Note
  • Bolden-Morris led the way with 17 points as the lone Hoya in double figures. She also pulled down a squad-best eight rebounds.
  • Graduate student Kaylin West added seven points and led the squad with five assists.
  • The Hoyas shot 28.6 percent (18-63) from the field and allowed 39.1 percent (25-64) shooting by the Red Storm.
  • Georgetown outrebounded St. John's 44-41, and the GU defense forced 12 Red Storm turnovers.
Schedule Notes
  • The Hoyas will continue their five-game homestand on Friday as the squad hosts the Xavier University Musketeers at 7 p.m. at McDonough Arena. The game will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi on FloSports. Live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
All Georgetown women's basketball home games are currently scheduled to be played at McDonough Arena. All Georgetown University indoor on-campus intercollegiate athletics events will be played with no fans in attendance for the month of January due to the emergence and rapid spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the Washington, D.C., region, across the country, and globally.
