Football to Face Colgate on the Road

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team will look to rebound after its bye week with a road matchup against Colgate in Hamilton, New York at Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium on Saturday, October 22.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Newcomer Wedner Cadet earned a spot on the 2022 Stats Perform FCS Jerry Rice Award Watch List for the nation's top freshman. The Massachusetts native is one of 26 FCS players and one of three freshmen with three or more interceptions in 2022.
  • The Hoyas entered their bye week after Mason Gudger, Justin Fonteneaux and Joshua Tomas received weekly honors following its matchup against Penn.
  • Despite Georgetown's setback (1-5, 0-2 Patriot) to the Quakers, Gudger picked up his first two Patriot League weekly accolades with Special Teams and Rookie selections, becoming the first PL player to take two awards in the same week since Colgate's Michael Brescia on Nov. 22, 2021. The Tennessee native finished the game with five kickoff returns for 227 all-purpose yards and two scores.
  • Gudger joined Bucknell's Dante Ross (Oct. 2, 2004) as the only two players in Patriot League history to take two kickoffs to the house in the same game. The Hoya freshman also tied the single-season and career Patriot League records with two touchdowns.
  • With two kickoff return touchdowns, Gudger also picked up FedEx Ground FCS National Freshman of the Week. He is tied for the FCS lead with Davidson's TJ Magee while also being just one of two Patriot League players to take one to the house this season (Jalen Burbage - Holy Cross).
  • Fonteneaux and Tomas picked up honorable mentions following the Penn game, giving the Hoyas eight on the season.
  • Freshman Mateen Ibirogba is also among the top newcomers in FCS, being one of 14 to register two or more sacks this season.

ABOUT THE RAIDERS
  • Colgate (1-5, 0-1 PL) enters Saturday's contest on a four-game losing streak and picked up its lone win over the University of Maine in week two.
  • 2021 Patriot League Rookie of the Year quarterback Brescia has had continued success in his sophomore season, tying four others for the conference lead in rushing touchdowns with six.
  • Head Coach Stan Dakosty enters his second season at the helm of the program, having been a part of seven of 10 Patriot League titles by the Raiders.

THE MATCHUP
  • The Hoyas will look to pick up their first road win against Colgate when they head up to Hamilton on Saturday.
